Instructors & Staff

Handgun Safety Training Corporation, its instructors and staff personnel are members and/or life members of the following organizations;

William D. (Bill) Slater, Jr., CPO/PI - Pres./CEO & Chief Instructor
Bill is the President/CEO of Handgun Safety Training Corporation and a twenty-one year veteran of military and civilian law enforcement and security as well as a sixteen year veteran firearms and handgun tactics instructor. Bill received his professional designation, C.P.O. - Certified Protection Officer, from the International Foundation for Protection Officers in July 1999. He served as the Secretary (1997-2004) and Executive Vice President (2001- 2003) of the Texas Concealed Handgun Instructor Association (T.C.H.I.A.) as well as one of the original members of the Board of Directors (1997-2004).

James G. Bennett (MSgt - USAF Security Forces Retired) - Instructor
Jim has over 32 years of experience in military and civilian law enforcement, security, management, logistics and human resources. Jim has performed duties across the globe in support of the U.S. Air Force Security Forces. Jim has effectively transitioned to positions of leadership within the civilian contract security and law enforcement arenas and delivered key administrative and training programs in support of the Homeland Security program. As a State of Texas Certified Peace Officer, Jim has worked as both a patrolman and shift supervisor as well as a Field Training Officer. He presently works as a police officer for the Bexar County Hospital District. Previous law enforcement experience includes Terrell Hills Police Dept., Hollywood Park Police Dept., and the San Antonio International Airport Police Department.

Jeffrey W. Jones (TSgt - USAF Security Forces Retired) - Instructor
Jeff is a retiree of the U.S. Air Force with 20 years of service with the Security Forces. He has 13 years experience as an instructor and spent 6 years as an instructor at the Security Force Academy at Lackland AFB. Jeff’s training expertise spans a broad spectrum of subjects including small arms training & qualification, Use of Force/Deadly Force, defensive tactics and GPS navigation systems. Jeff is a veteran of Desert Shield/Desert Storm and was selected to be part of a Personal Protection Team that provided close security for both U.S. and foreign dignitaries and Heads of State. Since retiring from active duty, Jeff has worked as a supervisor for a private security firm, providing security on military installations in support of homeland security.
